As mentioned above, we tried some of the possible solutions found on the web, like update the graphics card drivers, reinstalling and so on. Unfortunally, only one tutorial help us out to solve this issue. The steps differ slightly between the Steam and the Rockstar social club version of GTA 5.

Solution for Steam version

If your GTA 5 crash on start up with the mentioned error message, try to following steps.

  1. Open Steam und go into your Library.
  2. Now open your games and look for the Grand Theft Auto V entry.
  3. Right click and open the “Properties”.
  4. Now to to “Local files” and “Verify integrity of game cache”.
  5. This feature will run automatically and once it’s finish, hopefully the error Grand Theft Auto V Exited Unexpectedly is gone in your PC version.

Fix for the the Social Club users

If you downloaded GTA 5 over the Social Club and you face the error message Grand Theft Auto V Exited Unexpectedly, then the following should help you to fix this.

  1. Open the Windows Explorer and go into the game directory.
  2. Create a shortcut file of your GTAVLauncher and save it.
  3. Rightclick and open the “Properties”.
  4. In the Target box you have to add “-verify”, like “C:/ProgramFiles/RockStarGames/GTAVLauncher.exe” “-verify”
  5. Save it and start GTA 5 over the shortcut.
  6. This will verify the game files and download any corupted files.

  1. Unfortunately this is one of the many fixes I have attempted that has done nothing :\ It actually breaks the launcher, making it completely black for me
